my art work

This month we made a kupesi and this is my kupesi. I made this amazing, detailed kupesi because it reminds me of the vast blue sea from where I came from to New Zealand. Not only that my people (Filipino love fishing) and flowers reminds me of the vibrant colours of flowers back home. We were inspired by our artist Filipe Tohi.

My Reflection

AMy reflection I think PIXTON is an outstanding tool that can help us learn how to explain more and to be more creative, it helped us with our maths to explain more and explain better and it helps us with our writing to put more detail. I think PIXTON is a great opportunity for kids to learn more. I think this year, really help me improved more with my maths because I learnt different kind of things like for example timesing decimals, explaining more and learning how to find percentage. This year, writing was my most achieving thing, I learnt how we need more details in our writing, putting describing words, learning how to use punctuation, similes, metaphors and personification. Achievement I have achieved many things this year, I’ve learnt how to, Times decimals in math, cooperating in reading, Learning how to use similes metaphors and personification in writing, I have also learnt how to use more details in my writing And how to use punctuation. I have also learnt thow to find a perimeter and area of circles and triangles. My goals for next year are being over all the set levels for math, writing and reading.

Spoon Race and the Rob The Nest

Spoon Race and the Rob The Nest

On a beautiful windy morning at Tamaki Primary School, (Tuesday, 22nd October 2019) Room 8 had a very exciting morning, that was planned for our writing lesson, which was an entertaining and very challenging game of spoon race and Rob the Nest. I was very excited of what we're doing  because it’s about teamwork and we get to play against each other.

Before we play a game, We had to Plan a game that we could run but also work as a team so we chose to play Spoon Race, a Spoon Race is a game where you hold the spoon with a fruit on it and race to the END!. While we were sitting down on the mat, Mrs. Tafea picked a number on all of us to know which team we were on. My team were, George, Pauliasi, Eve, me, Mohokoi and finally Boisi. After sorting out our team into 4 groups, we lined up, and walked to the basketball court and wait until the cones were put. Meanwhile, the Cones were set up, and got split our team in 3 people and lined up on each side of the court, one person from each team gets one spoon and a kiwi, in my side the first person that was going was Eve and finally the game started Ready Get Set Go! Eve gently walk to end and got it to our teammates from the other side of the court, me and my team was cheering to our teammate so much, but suddenly it was me next I got nervous because I might make fall so I went slow and gently and got it to my teammates and I was so surprised because I made to the other side of the court.

After two rounds of Spoon Race we played another game, Rob The Nest, Rob The Nest needs two sides, each has the same amount of people and each person must have a number, so for example when the teacher calls out a number one person from each side with the same number has to go rush to the middle and get the ball to your side, but if you get in touch with the other team wins. After a few rounds of Rob The Nest  I finally got called, and I was going against my teacher. I sprinted to the middle and carefully take the ball but suddenly the sliped of my hand and my teacher got goal. After my game my friends got called, I was cheering so loud, and then suddenly, GOAL! My friend got the goal we were cheering and so surprised because he was running so fast like a running Cheetah.

At the end, we went back to class and came back exhausted and I think today was really fun and very entertaining because we went against each other and work as a team. And also I learned new things like, working as a team and be careful of what your holding or else it might fall.

my reflection

My Reflection
I think this term is the best and most entertaining term, this year, because we had an amazing event to celebrate Tongan language week, and we also had a very nice sponsors and teacher that gave us new awesome, detailed bikes and free sausages for our school.

I also gained understanding in my work such as, understanding recount,  find percentage, solving a problem and also do critical questions. I also think this term is the best term because, we reached 103 blogs which is why I should work more and try my best to do more blogs.

From this term my two favorite subjects are math and writing because they are one of the hardest subjects so I need to learn how to do them and for writing they teach me how to speak english gives me more interesting vocabulary.

My goals:
Understanding more about math language that will help me justify my work.
Learning to find interesting vocabulary that will make my writing powerful and makes sense.

Pixel raiders, speed zone

On the 20th of September 2019, I red a book called the Pixel Raiders speed zone (car race), this book is illustrated by Chris Kennet and authored by Bajo And Hex. When I first red this book it was filled with alot of interesting words and describing words. It was also very sad because in the start they got stuck in a virtuality game and they had to finish the game, if they didn't win every game they will be stuck in there forever.

Tongan Language week

                                        Tongan Language Week
Last friday, (5th of September 2019) Tamaki Primary School , had a huge, crowded, assembly to celebrate Tongan language week. While they were setting up the hall, first we had to wear our costumes (Tupenu) And wait until we line up. After a few minutes, we left (go at 11:00 and 11:30 start) our class lined up, and walk outside to the court and get to our lines.
In a few performances, it was finally our turn to perform. I got so nervous because there were alot of students and whanau that came to watch our performance, (Ma'ulu'ulu). After Our dance, we finally went back to class and waited until we get called to the hall for the tongan foods. In a few minutes we got called to the hall. I was so excited and very thankful, because they cooked delicious tongan food  for the whole whole school.

I think last friday was awesome and very exciting because we get to eat tongan foods, and do a great, and surprising performance .

All about me

Amelia Earhart

“Kamusta Railey, how are you today,”  said Mrs Tafea and I responded “Malo e lelei Mrs.Tafea I am doing perfectly fine”
“Today we were going to be learning heroes from the past.”  “Awesome” about the famous aviator named Amelia Earhart”

It all began with a girl named Amelia EarHart that was born on July 24, 1897, When she was a child she like watching planes fly on her television. Even though her family had a difficult life her parents encourage her to try new things. Few years later Amelia Earhart went to a plane for a first time. Suddenly she immediately knew she wanted to learn to fly a plane. With all her mom's help Amelia Earhart worked jobs to raise money for her flying lessons. After her hard 10 hours of training she finally made her very first flight. A few years later she made enough money to buy her very own plane which is called Canary because of the plane's bright yellow color. In 1928 Amelia Earhart received a call from Captain Hilton H Railey he asked if Amelia Earhart want to join a two pilot plane. Name friendship On June 17 1928 to United States to Europe. Amelia was the first women who cross the Atlantic ocean in an Airplane but didn't pilot the flight. Amelia also received a lot of things and was famous when she went home. In May 1932 Amelia Earhart made another journey across the Atlantic ocean but this time she went all by herself but also set a new record and did you know that President Herbert Hoover rewarded Amelia a medal for Distinguished Flying Cross for what she Accomplished. In June 1937 Amelia made her most ambitious for her final flight, along with a navigator named Fred Noonan, Amelia planned to go all around the world. When they were on their way around the world they were first headed to Miami to South America to Thailand then Australia. during their trip around the world, the last communication with the plane was 8:45 AM on July 2, 1937. the investigator and Navy's searched for the plane and the aviator but they didn't find a trace/sign of the plane or the aviator. “Well, what do you think about the story”
“It was a mindblowing story”

It must have been a very heartbreaking shattering news for Amelia's family finding out that her daughter has been in a tragic accident…

“It is also a very shattering news for her family because the body wasn't recovered or the plane”.

Making Kite

On a beautiful Thursday morning, the wind was blowing on a bright sunny day, straight after morning tea, room 8 and room 6 successfully made fabulous colourful kites by using strings, tape, decorations, coloured paper and scissors. When room 8 found out that we were going to make kites in room 6, we were all excited and joyful, but suddenly, Mrs Sharma told us that we have to work in buddies because there were not enough materials to make kites for each and one of us, so I choose Cheldyn as my buddy.

First, I and Cheldyn cut the papers into a diamond shape and then attach the sticks with the tape into the back of kites. After putting the tape at the back of the kite, me and Cheldyn design it with any soft decoration so the kite will fly properly without heavy stuff at the back of it.

After decorating the kites, Cheldyn and I started to make our string by rolling it into the scrunched paper.

Finally, we’re done so we went outside and fly kites on the field. We are so happy because it was successfully done even though there is not enough wind to fly the kite up high but we still had fun.

Influenza/Flu

In 1918 to 1919, influenza pandemic was the most devastating flu in history.  People were over-emotional nature passed rapidly across homes,  cities and nations of feeling to another; but the more melancholy moods predominated. Families were grieving because of a loved one lost,  sounds of sorrow and anguish because they couldn’t find any cure.
Besides the nine million that got killed in the war,  the terrible flu that raged across the world killed about 21 million innocent people.

In New Zealand, the arrival of the SS Niagara brought many cases of the epidemic flu on board.  Soon the people blamed the SS Niagara for bringing the horrible flu on board.

Although,  health department to help people by giving them a small bottle of stout,  whiskey and brandy to ease the pain but did not cure the terrible flu.  The health department also gave them a special chamber that can only do 30 people at a time,  so people lined up to get sprayed with the zinc sulphate to kill the bugs but it also did not work.  Other sprays were also tried such us spraying mail with formalin to stop letter readers by getting flu.

Towns became a ghost town.  Trams stopped running and many places were closed such as churches,  cinemas, schools and shops.  Children also looked after sick relatives.

Kupe

About a thousand years ago Kupe and his most helpful humble wife Kuramarotini, travelled all around the Pacific ocean to hunt an enormous octopus or perhaps search for the land that Maui hook up. The wife Kuramarotini was the first person to discover Aotearoa and that is where the name Aotearoa originated from the Land of the Long White Cloud.

After a long time at the Pacific ocean, Kuramarotini sighted long white clouds on the horizon waiting to uplift the revealed land. Kuramarotini woke up Kupe and finally told him they reached the (long white cloud/Aotearoa). Kupe and Kuramarotini first ashore on the far north of New Zealand then sailed down the east coast where Wellington stands today, After going pass Cook Strait, They arrive in the south island. Kupe and his family stayed in New Zealand even though the weather was colder but they managed to survive.

During Kupe’s greatest adventure on New Zealand Kupe found a precious greenstone and a 3-metre tall Moa who was found near the snow-capped mountain. Moa birds was the most enormous bird in the world, which has lots of meat to feed a lot of people. The settlers eat different types of food from the sea like fish, shellfish and seals and from the forest, they found roots, Berries, Snail, Insects and birds, they were hunted to their extinction because of their meat. They grew kumara, taro and yam and also eat the Polynesian dogs and rats.

After a while being in this amazing huge island of Aotearoa I think Kupe and his family were homesick and decided that it was time to return home. They killed the moa ate its delicious meat then preserved the moa bones to take home. They prepared a huge boulder of greenstone or the pounamu to take home. Gathered of their stuff, loaded some food and drinks and voyaged back home. Kupe’s and Kuramarotini’s amazing adventure they went back home with the moa bones and pounamu to show people that they have found a new land called the Long White Cloud

Finally, Kupe and Kuramarotini sailed north again and went back home. Imagine what people would have felt seeing them after a long time. The might be thrilled to see them back. Kupe and his family returned to their home paradise. It is warm and beautiful and left behind people gathered around because they want to hear their stories. Kupe’s adventure had led others to leave their beautiful small island to find a better place to settle to escape war and find a new life for themselves.About a thousand years ago Kupe and his most helpful humble wife Kuramarotini, travelled all around the Pacific ocean to hunt an enormous octopus or perhaps search for the land that Maui hook up. making Otai

On Friday morning 2019 room 8 successfully made Otai by using green apple, milk, ice, can of mango pulp and a can of pineapple crushed. When we were making Otai we were making so excited because it was so yummy and delicious.

First, thing that we did to make Otai is by peeling the green apple and put inside the grey container when we're done peeling. After we peeled the green apples Mrs.Tafea  went to get the big container and put the ice, milk, can of mango pulp and a can of pineapple crushed.

Then Mrs,Tafea went to get the grater to the get the apples into little pieces and put it inside the container. After Mrs, Tafea finished cutting the apples into little pieces all we went outside for morning tea.

Finally, the ingredients are mixed together. When the sugar was dissolved we waited until the Otai was cold enough and waited until the Keke was cooked.
