Information report: natural disasters

Natural disasters are a phenomenon which occur all around the world. Some are caused by moving tectonic plates, some are caused by wind and air pressure, and some are caused by other natural disasters.

Volcanic Eruptions by Stanley
Volcanoes eruptions are very dangerous because Volcanoes shot out fire and lava, where does the lava come from magma. Magma is crusty and magma goes through the throat of the volcano then melts then shots out the lava.
Earthquakes by Railey
Earthquakes are natural disaster that can crash buildings and make the rocks separate.
And do you know that earthquakes are caused by the two tectonic plates because when a two plate
Meets they rub and crash the ground and make the ground shake.

Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones by Stanley
Hurricanes start on water and Hurricanes have strong gust wind that the hurricanes even pick up trees. hurricanes have a eye which is in the middle of the hurricane and meteorologists use the greek alphabet for the storm. the clouds in the hurricanes is cumulonimbus.

Tsunamis by Railey
Tsunami are mostly caused by earthquakes because when it happens near the water it could shake the water and make a huge tsunami.
But when the tsunami crash it could make huge flood. Some of the tsunami’s flood are mostly bigger than house.

Tornadoes by Stanley
Tornadoes form on land by a thunderstorm meeting hot air and cold in a rotating motion. The best place to hide in a tornado is the basement. because the tornado cannot reach you because the tornado can only get the roof.
Floods and drought by Railey
Flood mostly caused by tsunamis and rainfall
Because is the drainage is full of water is could make a flood. Some of the country’s has bigger flood than New Zealand.
And do you know that if tsunami hits the town it could make the a huge flood and it would take for weeks to make the flood go away.

Blizzards by Stanley
Blizzards are like snowstorms because blizzards have snow and snowstorms have snow too but they both have different wind speeds. Blizzards have something called white out. White out means its very white and you can't see anyone.

Dust storm by Railey
Dust storm are caused by strong wind, dust and dirt at same time. When the strong wind meets then dirt and the dust it could a little sand storm but when the strong wind gets more dust it could make a huge dust storm.
But how do sand storm finish, the sand storm finish when the strong wind stops.

Wildfire by Stanley
Wildfires are something that could burn a hole mountain. Wildfires can be controlled by people burning a little spot of the mountain so the fire can't burn the hole mountain

Man-made and natural disasters can devastate people and the places we live in. Although we can’t predict most natural disasters, we can do our best to keep safe and look after our properties and things we value.

Least dangerous vs. Most dangerous

We chose to pick the Most dangerous

on the right because they can kill people in different ways.

We picked the earthquake on the Least dangerous because it can kill people but we think it on both because it is dangerous and sometimes not.

Starts underground vs. above

We think that the right ones are underground because the magma has to go throw the tectonic plates.

We think the left one are above but not the tsunami because earthquakes start it.

Wind vs. no wind

I think tsunami have no wind because tsunamis happen by earthquakes.

I think hurricanes have wind because its been made of water and air.

I think tornadoes have wind because it needs strong winds, hot air and cold

Water vs. no water

I think it's a great idea to put the volcano on no water because volcano’s don't need air

I think the left ones are water because they all have water.

the important words from our presentation bout drought

the important words from our presentation bout drought

Droughts happen when there is less rain than expected. This also means there is a shortage of water and not enough to meet the needs of people, plants and animals. However, droughts are a usual part of the climate and they can happen in most parts of the Earth.

Did some of you define droughts as there being no rain?
A lot of people think the same as you, but it is a bit more complicated than that.

1982-1983
This drought was short and it was caused by a very strong El NiƱo event. About half of Australia had very low rainfall levels. Eastern and central Australia were most affected. The bush became very dry so this drought contributed to the bushfires in 1983 called Ash Wednesday.

1991-1995
Queensland experienced exceptionally low rainfall levels. About 40% of the state was declared to be in drought. Many farmers lost their crops and livestock. Unemployment became a problem as people in rural areas lost their jobs.

1996-2010
The most recent drought was know as the Millennium Drought. It lasted almost 14 long years. The Murray-Darling Basin and much of southern Australia was affected by this drought. Many towns and cities had to introduce water restrictions. People used about 35% less water in their homes during the drought.

writing about tunami

P1
In the past the maori people ate moa,moa is a big bird. When the tsunami came some so people migrated to safety when they came back and there was different food to eat like mud snails. When a tsunami is far away from New Zealand people will have more time to get ot safety and get there stuff ready to migrate.

P2
So when the tsunami is a little bit far they have more time to get up the mountain with there stuff. When i learnt how tsunami happen i think about how big is the tsunami if it’s far away from New Zealand when i think about that i think that tsunami is very big but actually it will be kind of a normal wave.

what is an earthquakes

  • What is an earthquake?
  • Why do earthquakes happen?
Crust - plates - converging, diverging, continental and oceanic
  • Where do Earthquakes happen?
Ring of fire
Examples of Earthquakes
  • Where are most of the impacts of Earthquakes?
Landslides
Liquefaction
What happens to cities and buildings
What happens to people
Tsunamis
  • What was the strongest earthquake ever?
  • How are earthquakes measured? (magnitude, richter scale).

What is an earthquake?
Earthquakes is a disaster that can destroy buildings and damage people. Earthquakes only happens when a two tectonic plates rub each other which can tshake ground and destroy rocks. Earthquakes 7 Major earthquakes happen every year. If You look at a Richter Scale There are 10 levels from Unfelt to Super.

What was the strongest earthquake ever?
The world's strongest earthquakes is the Shaanxi earthquake which  can kill about 830,000 people Which is so Crazy because if 830,000 people has died from that crazy earthquakes it must have destroy about 940,000 .

Why do earthquakes Happen?
It happens when the rock underground breaks. When it breaks it release energy to shake the ground. When your house to epicenter your will crash the more closer to the epicenter the more damage you get.

How are earthquakes measured?
These Earthquakes are measured by a Richter Scale. The Richter scale can measure the magnitude and how strong the earthquakes are.
1 Unfelt 2 great 3

Where are most of the impacts of Earthquakes? Earthquake mostly happen in the ring of fire. It is mostly there because of the movement. Also because there is a lot of fault lines. Fault lines are were heaps of earthquake happen to.

volcanoes

Vulcan
Vulcan has power of fire people that disrespect him he would erupt a volcano and his armor would be Made out of Iron. This would make him one of the greek gods just like Zeus. Vulcan can cause serious injuries but luckily he is just a myth. He Is the son of Jupiter and Juno and he is the husband of Venus. He lived on a island named Volcano.

Volcanoes
Volcanoes is a gigantic mountain’s that has full of lava and most volcanoes are found in the ring of fire. Volcanoes are huge some are different like the shield volcano kind the king of fire is vulcan the roman god of fire. Volcanoes are  dangerous cause it could make super injuries and cause death to people.

Does Vulcan Have siblings?
The only thing that i really know about Vulcan is that he is the god of fire Roman of mythology. Vulcan is the only one god Hephaestus he is the son of jupiter and juno.
