Kupe

About a thousand years ago Kupe and his most helpful humble wife Kuramarotini, travelled all around the Pacific ocean to hunt an enormous octopus or perhaps search for the land that Maui hook up. The wife Kuramarotini was the first person to discover Aotearoa and that is where the name Aotearoa originated from the Land of the Long White Cloud.

After a long time at the Pacific ocean, Kuramarotini sighted long white clouds on the horizon waiting to uplift the revealed land. Kuramarotini woke up Kupe and finally told him they reached the (long white cloud/Aotearoa). Kupe and Kuramarotini first ashore on the far north of New Zealand then sailed down the east coast where Wellington stands today, After going pass Cook Strait, They arrive in the south island. Kupe and his family stayed in New Zealand even though the weather was colder but they managed to survive.

During Kupe’s greatest adventure on New Zealand Kupe found a precious greenstone and a 3-metre tall Moa who was found near the snow-capped mountain. Moa birds was the most enormous bird in the world, which has lots of meat to feed a lot of people. The settlers eat different types of food from the sea like fish, shellfish and seals and from the forest, they found roots, Berries, Snail, Insects and birds, they were hunted to their extinction because of their meat. They grew kumara, taro and yam and also eat the Polynesian dogs and rats.

After a while being in this amazing huge island of Aotearoa I think Kupe and his family were homesick and decided that it was time to return home. They killed the moa ate its delicious meat then preserved the moa bones to take home. They prepared a huge boulder of greenstone or the pounamu to take home. Gathered of their stuff, loaded some food and drinks and voyaged back home. Kupe’s and Kuramarotini’s amazing adventure they went back home with the moa bones and pounamu to show people that they have found a new land called the Long White Cloud

Finally, Kupe and Kuramarotini sailed north again and went back home. Imagine what people would have felt seeing them after a long time. The might be thrilled to see them back. Kupe and his family returned to their home paradise. It is warm and beautiful and left behind people gathered around because they want to hear their stories.
